I Wrote A Book!
Last fall I wrote a book for my students. I work in a preschool and we have a lot of great books here. But I felt like there weren’t a lot of books that had what I was looking for which was:
a basic, simple story that preschoolers can easily understand (especially those with expressive/receptive language delays)
repetitive text on each page that is easy and fun for children to anticipate, imitate and fill-in-the-blank
opportunities throughout the book to work on imitating gestures, sounds and words
characters and items in the book that children really love
And because I wanted to use more books in my group sessions, and didn’t have a lot of books that fit the bill, I wrote my own! The idea of a little bear falling asleep in all sorts of places besides his bed came to me while I was working on a totally different concept for a book and I liked this idea better so I just ran with it. I am so proud of my book and I have gotten some amazing feedback from it. I have used it with all of my students at the preschool and they all love it.
My book is called, “No Sleeping, There Silly Bear” and it is available on Amazon if you want to check it out!
Another special thing about my book is that I included a page for parents and caregivers that has a BUNCH of ideas and tips about reading this book out loud to better increase speech and language skills. I included tips about finding ways to use gestures, funny sounds and actions on each page.
